Hyatt’s new Thompson Miami Beach to open in Summer 2025

The coming year looks exciting for Hyatt’s growth in Miami. We’ve already discussed the highly anticipated opening of the Andaz Miami Beach in March 2025, which will transform The Confidante Miami Beach, a Hyatt Unbound Collection property, into a new Andaz.

In this post, we’ll dive into the Thompson Miami Beach, set to open in June 2025, just a couple of months after the Andaz. This property is also now accepting reservations, though it might not generate as much buzz as the Andaz.

Basics of the new Thompson Miami Beach

The 147-room Thompson Miami Beach is accepting reservations for stays starting June 1, 2025. This represents a notable delay, as earlier projections had the hotel opening by January 30, 2025. Hopefully, no further delays arise.

The property is located at 1685 Washington Avenue, a couple of blocks from the ocean, so it’s not a beachfront location. Guests can look forward to a rooftop pool and a signature rooftop restaurant. Standard rooms will start at 295 square feet, and standard suites will offer 590 square feet of space.

For those unfamiliar, Thompson is one of Hyatt’s lifestyle brands, with a strong focus on food and beverage outlets designed to attract locals. It’s interesting to see the Thompson brand return to Miami, as The Confidante Miami Beach originally operated as a Thompson before transitioning to Hyatt’s Unbound Collection. Now, that property will become an Andaz, while the new property takes on the Thompson name.

Thompson Miami Beach rates & points requirements

This property will be categorized as a Category 6 World of Hyatt property. Free night redemptions in a standard room will require 21,000–29,000 points per night, while standard suites will cost 36,000–44,000 points per night.

Cash rates are variable. With the hotel opening in the summer—a quieter season in Florida—rates currently start at under $300 per night. However, during peak season, rates can more than double.

If you’re booking a cash stay, we recommend doing so through the Hyatt Privé program to enjoy perks like room upgrades, complimentary breakfast, and a hotel credit.

Why this is a moderately exciting addition for Miami

It’s great to see more options for travelers to redeem points, especially in Miami, where Hyatt has historically had a limited presence in the luxury and upper-upscale segments. With the addition of both the Andaz and the Thompson, Hyatt is expanding its footprint in meaningful ways.

That said, we’re managing expectations for this property. It’s a smaller property, so it likely won’t have the expansive amenities that some travelers might expect. Also, recent Thompson properties in the U.S. have been somewhat underwhelming, with small rooms, inconsistent construction quality (such as poor sound insulation), and high prices.

For now, we’re more excited about the Andaz Miami Beach, given its beachfront location, even though it’s a couple of miles farther north.

Conclusion

The Thompson Miami Beach is a 147-room property expected to open in June 2025, and it’s one of two new Hyatt lifestyle hotels debuting in Miami Beach next year. While the addition of more points-friendly hotels is always welcome, the location and size of this property may not appeal to everyone. Still, it’s worth keeping an eye on as Miami’s hotel landscape evolves.
