One&Only Moonlight Basin is Opening in November 2025
Located in Big Sky, Montana, the One&Only Moonlight Basin is now accepting reservations for stays beginning November 18, 2025. This marks One&Only’s debut in the United States—and notably, its very first ski resort anywhere in the world.
Resort overview
The resort features 73 guest rooms and suites, along with private residences. Nestled in the upscale ski destination of Big Sky, the property offers year-round adventure, from ski-in, ski-out access to Big Sky Resort in winter, to scenic hikes in the summer.

Accommodations are spacious, with entry-level rooms starting at 725 square feet—comparable to suites at many other luxury hotels. Even standard rooms come with fireplaces, double vanities, and soaking tubs, while suites begin at 1,100 square feet.

Dining options include several unique food and beverage concepts: Wildwood (the all-day restaurant), Dear Josephine Lounge (the main bar), and Moon Shack (a cozy whisky spot).

Naturally, the resort also includes a full wellness center featuring a spa, gym, and indoor pool.

The Alpine lodge-inspired design looks stunning, and we’re excited about the atmosphere the property is aiming to create. While Big Sky has attracted a wealthy crowd in recent years, hotel options have remained fairly limited—until now. The Montage Big Sky currently holds the title for top luxury accommodations in the area, but we expect the One&Only to raise the bar.

We’re confident the resort will be visually spectacular, though we’re curious to see how the service measures up. While the U.S. offers fantastic skiing, other elements of the resort experience—like dining, service, and overall value—often don’t quite live up to expectations. We’ve found that even highly rated properties can sometimes fall short when it comes to hospitality and pricing transparency.
Booking & Rates
As expected, a stay at One&Only Moonlight Basin doesn’t come cheap—especially in a market like Big Sky, where hotel availability is limited. Reservations are currently open for the ski season, with rates starting at approximately $2,360 per night, including taxes and fees. The base rate is $1,950, with an added 9% resort fee, 8% tourism tax, and 4% resort tax.

While over $2,000 per night is undoubtedly a premium rate, it’s on par with what we’ve seen at comparable U.S. ski resorts like the St. Regis Deer Valley or Aspen—though those properties often have inflated rates that don’t reflect true value or consistency in service.
Conclusion
The One&Only Moonlight Basin is slated to open in November 2025 and will become the second major luxury resort to debut in Big Sky in recent years. The design, location, and accommodations all look very promising, and we’re optimistic about the intimate, elevated experience it could offer—especially compared to the larger Montage property.
That said, we still find it difficult to get too enthusiastic about U.S. ski resorts overall. While the skiing itself is world-class, the broader guest experience—from service to inclusions—often lags behind what’s offered in top European destinations.
