Hyatt to open new Unbound Collection property in Mainz, Germany

A new Hyatt property that we’ve been anticipating for quite some time has just opened. While this may be of particular interest to us more than the average person, we’ll cover it anyway…

Hyatt Unbound Collection comes to Mainz, Germany

As we often explain, we like to keep tabs on the German hotel market. Our whole family is from Germany, and most of our relatives still live there, so we enjoy visiting whenever possible. Fortunately, Hyatt options in the Frankfurt area continue to improve— in early 2025, we’ll see the opening of Kennedy 89 Hotel Frankfurt, a Hyatt Unbound Collection property.

That’s not the only new hotel opening in the area as part of Hyatt Unbound Collection. Brunfels Hotel Mainz opened on August 29, 2024, and is also part of Hyatt Unbound Collection.

For those not familiar with Mainz, this is a charming city not far from Frankfurt, and it’s just a quick train ride away from Frankfurt Airport (FRA). So if you have a night at Frankfurt Airport, this is a great alternative to staying in Frankfurt. The hotel is located in the heart of the Old Town, on Schillerplatz.

Mainz, Germany

Brunfels Hotel Mainz is a conversion of an existing hotel. This was formerly the 127-room, five-story Hilton Mainz City, which closed in early 2023 and has undergone extensive renovations (it was one of two Hiltons in Mainz, which may partly explain the rebranding). The hotel has reopened as a much more charming property, from the looks of it.

Rooms are on the compact side, as expected. Base rooms are 26 square meters (280 square feet), while junior suites are 33 square meters (355 square feet).

The hotel features Brunfels Restaurant, an all-day dining option, and Brunfels Bar, which includes a beautiful courtyard.

For those curious about the property’s name, it’s named after botanist Otto Brunfels. This is also why the property features artwork inspired by nature, with botany-infused touches woven throughout the lighting, decor, furnishings, and more. The color palette combines earthy greens, beige, and brown, aligning with the hotel’s natural style.

For those seeking a more traditional Hyatt property, there’s also the Hyatt Regency Mainz, which is perfectly fine, but we think this hotel looks a bit cuter.

What are rates like at Brunfels Hotel Mainz, whether paying cash or redeeming points?

For those redeeming points, this is a Category 3 World of Hyatt property, meaning a free night in a standard room costs 9,000-15,000 points per night. Meanwhile, a free night in a standard suite costs 17,000-23,000 points per night.

As for cash rates, they vary significantly depending on the day of the week and time of year, generally starting in the range of €150-250 per night.

Conclusion

A new Hyatt Unbound Collection property has opened in Germany, in the form of Brunfels Hotel Mainz. This was formerly Hilton Mainz City, which has undergone significant renovation. The hotel looks charming, and we hope to check it out on one of our upcoming trips through Frankfurt.
