The South Pacific airline had been in discussions with members of the oneworld alliance for some time to join the group. Now it's official: Fiji Airways is a full member of the alliance.

Fiji Airways had long been a oneworld Connect partner airline, an alternative to full membership in the oneworld alliance, the smallest of the three major airline alliances. According to Simple Flying, Fiji Airways announced that it became a full member of the alliance on June 3. Later this year, Oman Air will also join the alliance, adding another partner.

Key Points:

  • Fiji Airways became a full oneworld member on June 3.

  • The alliance now consists of 15 airlines.

  • Fiji Airways gains numerous benefits from this membership.

15th Member of the oneworld Alliance:

Since 2018, Fiji Airways has been the only oneworld Connect partner airline. This status is not full membership but offers some benefits such as frequent flyer perks, lounge access, and codesharing. On June 3, during the IATA General Assembly in Dubai, it was announced that Fiji Airways is now a full member of the alliance. Robert Isom, Chairman of the oneworld Alliance, cited the excellent cooperation over the past five years as the reason for this promotion. According to reports from Aerotelegraph, the integration process will take up to twelve months.

The oneworld alliance celebrated its 25th anniversary on February 1. In this context, Robert Isom said:

"We’re very proud of the great progress oneworld has made during the last 25 years, and I’m confident that the next 25 years will bring even greater benefits for our customers and our amazing people."

With Fiji Airways joining, the oneworld alliance now has 15 member airlines. Besides founding members Qantas, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, and American Airlines, the alliance also includes Qatar Airways, Finnair, and Japan Airlines.

Benefits of Membership:

Passengers of Fiji Airways benefit significantly from full membership in the airline alliance. They gain access to new global connections, increased lounge availability through partner airlines, improved baggage policies for frequent flyers, and more opportunities to earn and redeem miles.

The membership was positively received by other key partners in the alliance, such as Qatar Airways and British Airways. Fiji Airways' fleet consists of 14 aircraft flying to 26 international destinations from its base in Nadi. Oneworld alliance members collectively fly to over 900 destinations worldwide.

Fiji Airways' subsidiary, Fiji Link, will also become a oneworld partner airline, further expanding the network with domestic flights and routes to Pacific nations like Samoa and Vanuatu. Award flights to Nadi, Fiji Airways' base and the fourth-largest city in the Fiji Islands, are already bookable through programs like the British Airways Executive Club.
