Qatar Airways (QR) is the state-owned flag carrier of Qatar, renowned for its exceptional service and modern fleet. It is consistently ranked as one of the world's best airlines, known for its luxurious cabins, excellent in-flight entertainment, and top-notch cuisine.

Operating from its hub at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar Airways flies to over 150 destinations worldwide, covering all six inhabited continents. The airline is a member of the Oneworld alliance, allowing passengers to enjoy seamless connections and benefits across a vast network of airlines.

Qatar Airways has received numerous awards for its outstanding performance, including Skytrax's prestigious "Airline of the Year" title multiple times.

Extensive Flight Network

Qatar Airways has an impressive flight network and allows you to connect to almost all parts of the world (except for South and Central America). They are especially strong in their coverage of European and Asian destinations.

Luckily, that means that you can comfortably fly on QR’s fantastic planes to some pretty exotic destinations, such as Kathmandu (KTM) and Luanda (LAD).

Qatar Airways’ Fleet

To get you to your destination, Qatar Airways uses a pretty modern and fairly concentrated fleet. Here is a high-level overview of their airplanes:

Type (Amount)
Airbus A320 (29)
Airbus A330 (12)
Airbus A350 (58)
Airbus A380 (10)
Boeing 737 MAX (9)
Boeing 777 (64)
Boeing 787 (47)

As you can see, Qatar Airways has a heavy focus on efficient wide-body airplanes that run well with their outstanding business class called “Qsuite” (only available on some airplanes).

Qatar Airways First Class

Qatar Airways also has a First Class - however, they are slowly phasing it out in favor of their more profitable (and arguably great enough) Qsuite business class. You can still find them on their A380 airplanes, of which Qatar Airways is using 10 planes in their operations (there are currently also some Boeing 777s from Cathay Pacific on a lease agreement in operations for QR). As you can see on the picture below, the difference between their aging First Class and their outstanding Business Class is not too big and thus it might be better to save your miles or money for a First Class flight on a different airline (except for the stunning First Class lounge you would miss out on at Doha airport).

If you still are eager to try it out, these are the routes where QR is currently offering a First Class:

  • Doha (DOH) - London (LHR)

  • Doha (DOH) - Paris (CDG)

  • Doha (DOH) - Bangkok (BKK)

  • Doha (DOH) - Sydney (SYD)

Conclusion

Qatar Airways is a fantastic option to travel across most of the world, especially when you are sitting in Qatar Airways’ Qsuite. However, do note that QR is notorious for swapping out plane types last minute and there is no guarantee that you will receive e.g. the Qsuite on your plane.
