Despite Exiting Star Alliance: SAS Maintains Partnership with Singapore Airlines

Scandinavian Airlines' upcoming transition to the SkyTeam alliance is approaching quickly, with August 31 being SAS's last day in the Star Alliance. Starting September 1, their new partners will include Air France, KLM, and others.

An interesting development was mentioned as a side note in today's SAS newsletter. Despite leaving Star Alliance, the partnership with Singapore Airlines will continue. This means that it will still be possible to earn SAS points on Singapore Airlines flights.

The email did not mention anything about redeeming EuroBonus points for Singapore Airlines flights. However, it is intriguing that the announcement hinted that selected frequent flyer benefits will return later this year.

Earlier today, the SAS page regarding the partnership with Singapore Airlines included the following note:
"Please note that the last day you can earn points is August 31, 2024."
This note has since been removed. However, regarding the redemption of miles, it is still stated that bookings must be made by August 31. The travel itself can take place later, but may not be rebooked.

Conclusion

SAS and Singapore Airlines don’t have many direct connections, as SAS's presence in Asia is relatively limited. The primary aim of the partnership is likely to enable Singapore Airlines to cover almost every corner of Scandinavia using SAS feeder flights.

For customers of both SAS and Singapore Airlines, the more partnerships, the better. It will be interesting to see if similar collaborations emerge between SAS and other Star Alliance airlines.
