DEAL: Lufthansa Selling Miles with 50% Bonus (1.33 Cents Per Mile) until Nov 7th
In late 2022, Lufthansa’s Miles & More program entered the mileage sale market, launching its latest promotion for purchased miles with an interesting backstory. This promotion offers a strong value, especially since Miles & More points can otherwise be difficult to earn.
Lufthansa Bundle&Go Mileage Sale
Lufthansa sells Miles & More miles via mileage bundles under its “Bundle&Go” branding rather than directly, as many programs do. Bundles come in extra small, small, medium, and large sizes, each offering different mile amounts.
Until Thursday, November 7, 2024, Lufthansa Miles & More is offering a 50% bonus on its Bundle&Go packages. For U.S.-registered accounts, the bundle pricing is as follows:
• Extra small bundle: 4,500 Lufthansa miles for $100, or 2.22 cents per mile
• Small bundle: 15,000 Lufthansa miles for $280, or 1.87 cents per mile
• Medium bundle: 75,000 Lufthansa miles for $1,140, or 1.52 cents per mile
• Large bundle: 150,000 Lufthansa miles for $1,990, or 1.33 cents per mile
These bundles include additional perks, like bonus miles through Hotels&Cars, extra miles with Avis, and discounts on Priority Pass memberships.
Lufthansa’s Bundle&Go Mileage Offers
Lufthansa Miles & More miles have a unique advantage: they allow redemption for Lufthansa first class more than 15 days in advance—unlike most partner programs. However, Lufthansa Miles & More does apply fuel surcharges, which can limit the miles’ overall value.
Even so, being able to top off a Miles & More balance is beneficial, as there are limited ways to earn these miles otherwise. Miles & More doesn’t partner with any major transferable points currencies, though it does have a U.S.-issued co-branded credit card.
This current 50% bonus offer aligns with the best promotions we’ve seen from Miles & More. Past promotions include a 30% bonus in March, a 50% bonus in April, a 30% discount (~43% bonus equivalent) in June, and another 50% bonus in September.
Why Lufthansa Is Being Creative with Selling Miles
Historically, Lufthansa has been one of the few major airlines not to sell miles directly to consumers. This isn’t due to a lack of interest but rather due to Germany’s strict consumer protection laws, which previously led to legal issues over mileage expiration and more.
Lufthansa’s approach with Bundle&Go creatively avoids these issues, offering bundles with added perks instead of assigning a direct dollar value to the miles. This method allows Lufthansa to sidestep legal complications while providing a viable way to sell miles.
Conclusion
Lufthansa Miles & More’s latest promotion lets you buy miles through mileage bundles, marketed as Bundle&Go, with prices as low as 1.33 cents per mile with the current 50% bonus. While this may not appeal to everyone, it could be a valuable option for those needing to top up their Lufthansa balance.
Fuel surcharges (also known as carrier-imposed surcharges, fuel fees, YQ/YR fees, or international/national surcharges) are additional charges introduced during periods of high fuel prices. While initially linked to fuel costs, they have evolved into…
