DEAL: Buy Lufthansa Miles With 50% Bonus (1.31 Cents Per Mile) until Sep 30

In late 2022, Lufthansa's Miles & More program entered the business of selling miles, and the story behind it is quite interesting. Lufthansa has just launched its latest promotion on purchasing miles, offering the potential for good value, especially since this is a points currency that can be difficult to accumulate.

Lufthansa Bundle&Go Mileage Sale

Lufthansa sells Miles & More miles through its unique Bundle&Go packages rather than directly selling miles like many other programs. These bundles come in various sizes: extra small, small, medium, or large.

For purchases made until Monday, September 30, 2024, Lufthansa Miles & More is offering a 50% bonus on these Bundle&Go packages. The pricing for U.S. customers is as follows:

Bundle&Go packages (Source: Lufthansa)

  • Extra Small Bundle: 4,500 Lufthansa miles for $100 (with a 50% bonus), which equates to 2.22 cents per mile.

  • Small Bundle: 15,000 Lufthansa miles for $280 (with a 50% bonus), which equates to 1.87 cents per mile.

  • Medium Bundle: 75,000 Lufthansa miles for $1,120 (with a 50% bonus), which equates to 1.49 cents per mile.

  • Large Bundle: 150,000 Lufthansa miles for $1,960 (with a 50% bonus), which equates to 1.31 cents per mile.

These bundles also come with additional perks, such as bonus miles when booking through the Hotels&Cars platform, bonus miles with Avis, and discounts on Priority Pass memberships.

Why Lufthansa is Taking a Creative Approach to Selling Miles

One of the perks of Lufthansa Miles & More miles is that you can use them to redeem for Lufthansa first class more than 15 days in advance, which is not possible with most partner programs. However, one drawback is that Lufthansa Miles & More imposes fuel surcharges, which reduces the overall value of the miles.

Still, these mileage bundles provide an opportunity to top off your Miles & More account since it's otherwise hard to accumulate miles through other means. The program does not partner with any major transferable points currencies, though it does offer a U.S. co-branded credit card.

This 50% bonus is one of the better promotions we've seen from Miles & More recently. Past offers included a 30% bonus in March, a 50% bonus in April, and a 30% discount (equivalent to a 43% bonus) in June, making this current 50% bonus particularly appealing.

Lufthansa has traditionally avoided selling miles directly to consumers, largely due to Germany's strict consumer protection laws. Past attempts resulted in lawsuits over mileage expiration and other issues. The current Bundle&Go format allows Lufthansa to sell miles without assigning a direct dollar value, helping the airline avoid potential legal challenges.

Conclusion

Lufthansa Miles & More has introduced its latest promotion on purchasing miles through Bundle&Go packages. With the current offer, you can buy miles for as little as 1.31 cents each. While we wouldn’t recommend proactively purchasing Lufthansa miles at this price for everyone, it could be a worthwhile option for those who need to top off their account for an upcoming redemption.
